New Year's Prayer

Lord, we pray not for perfect circumstances
In the year that lies ahead,
But that You would keep us close to the cross
Where Your precious blood was shed.
We know we need both the sunshine and rain
To grow and to have Your best,
So we just pray Your perfect will be done…
In Your loving arms we rest.

On those days when dark clouds cover the sun,
Lord, may we see Your bright ray,
And realize You are developing us
To be more like You each day.
May we yield not to temptations that come,
But submit ourselves to You,
Resisting the devil and all his charms…
Lord, keep us faithful and true.

May we always trust in Your sovereign hand,
Whatever may be our plight,
We know the God of all heaven and earth
Will always do what is right;
So, for the New Year, Lord, we humbly pray,
Not just for fair days of sun,
But that You would keep us close to the cross…
And Your perfect will be done.

“Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”
(Mt. 6:10)
