Perfection

When we have repented of sin
And received Jesus, God’s Son,
Our spiritual state before God
Is a holy, righteous one.
Our desire is to be perfect –
To please the Savior we love,
But perfection will only come
When we reach heaven above;
Our flesh wars against the Spirit
And we find that we still sin –
That which we would not do, we do,
And there’s a struggle within.
Oh, if we could just learn to walk
In the Spirit every day,
There would be no condemnation
As we travel life’s highway.
Friend, if we believe we’re perfect,
Then our own selves we deceive,
But, though we have not yet attained,
Let us move forth to achieve…
Pressing on toward the mark of God –
The high calling in Jesus,
Till we hear His great trumpet sound…
And, from all sin, He frees us.
Hallelujah! We’ll be perfect,
When our precious Lord we see…
No more battle, no unknown sin,
For we’ll be completely free.
Let us seek to live holy lives
Till our time on earth is done,
And we meet Jesus face to face…
Perfection in God the Son!

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
“We know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”
(I Jo 1:8; 3:2)
