The Pride of Life

The God who saved us by His grace
Deserves our worship and praise;
Yet the pride of life shows its face
In so many ugly ways.
Many times we worship God’s gifts
More than we worship Him;
How sad it is when the soul drifts…
And the inner Light grows dim.

The lust of the flesh and the eyes,
As well as the pride of life,
Are not of God, but of this world;
They lead to trouble and strife.
Seeking to keep up with the Jones,
Attempting to measure up,
Caught up with material things…
We rob our spiritual cup.

This world shall one day pass away,
But God’s Word shall still endure,
And all who love Him and do His will
Shall abide ever secure.
Let us live humbly before Him,
Giving Him all of our praise,
Guarding against The Pride of Life…
Walking in all of His ways.

 “All that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes,
and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof:
but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”
(1 Jn 2:16-17)
