Ye Shall Know Them
As I sat there on the church pew
Feeling so all alone,
I wondered if anyone knew
It took courage to come;
Entering a strange gathering
Was not my favorite thing;
Awkward and shy, I looked around
As folks began to sing.
I joined in and worshipped God,
But I still felt alone;
No one had spoken to me there,
I didn’t feel at home;
So when the service was over,
I eased on out the door…
And went on searching for a place
As I had done before.
The next week I found my church home
Where people smiled and loved;
I could see the fruit of the Spirit
And blessings from above.
These were certainly God’s people,
It was so plain to tell;
They welcomed me with open arms,
And on my knees I fell…
Lord, You tell us we shall know them
By the fruits that we see,
And You have led me to this church…
A fruit bearer to be.
Help me to welcome visitors
With a heart filled with love
That their search for a church might end
As they see fruit from above.
“Ye shall know them by their fruits…”
