The Shepherd Knows His Sheep

In the mind of the Good Shepherd,
Before the world began,
Were the names of all of His sheep…
Each one part of His plan;
He knew just when we would be born,
The hour, and the place,
And when we would be born again
By His mercy and grace…
The Shepherd Knows His Sheep.

Our LORD knows the thoughts and intents
Of our human hearts so frail,
And how prone we are to wander…
Leaving the righteous trail;
He knows if we’ve left our first love
And fallen into sin,
And with His staff He draws us back…
He is our dearest Friend…
The Shepherd Knows His Sheep.

He knows if we desire to serve
Or merely live for self,
And if we become self-centered…
He puts us on the shelf;
But when we joyfully serve Him,
What blessings we do reap!
We become His useful vessels,
Reaching out to lost sheep…
The Shepherd Knows His Sheep.

 Jesus said: “I am the good shepherd,
and I know my sheep, and am known of mine.”
(Jn 10:14)
